You need dental insurance – you have no doubts about that. You’re probably even looking for coverage for the whole family. With so many choices to pick from, how do you decide? Here are several things that can help you.

Cost of coverage
It’s a no brainer, really. You need to be able to afford the cost of the dental insurance package that you choose. Take a look at different offers so that you can find the most affordable one.

Your family’s needs
You need to do a self-assessment. If you are quite healthy, then you can opt for less coverage. You probably would not need full coverage. However, if you know that you will need major dental procedures in the future, then you really have to consider spending more on insurance.

Reputation of the clinics
Dental insurance policies usually have affiliated clinics. You need to make sure that the clinics associated with the policy are reputable and trustworthy.

Bottom line: do some research.

As you already know, there are different kinds of dental insurance coverage. The cheapest is a basic dental package. Of course, it does have its disadvantages – it is not called basic for nothing. This does not mean that a basic dental insurance package will not cover your needs, though. Indeed, for the average healthy person, basic coverage will suffice for the most part.

The important thing is that you take a close look at your options. Different dental insurance providers will offer different services with their basic packages. Here are three things that you ought to make sure are included in the package:

1.	Dental health maintenance
Services included here are regular cleanings, cavity fillings, fluoride treatments, and tooth extractions.

2.	Preventive dental care
Services include check ups and treatments focusing on preventing gum and tooth diseases.

3.	Partial coverage of major dental procedures
This is a difficult thing to find in basic dental packages. However, if you look hard enough, you will find some providers which offer at least partial coverage of major dental procedures.

In the previous post, we took a look at simple things you should after a tooth extraction. This time, let us look at things that you should NOT do.

1.	Don’t smoke for at least 48 hours. That’s right – if you are a smoker, you ought to put away the habit if only temporarily. Cigarettes contain chemicals that can affect the clotting of the blood.
2.	Don’t spit for at least a day. You may be tempted to spit, especially if you taste blood – which you probably would. However, the action of spitting may cause the wound to bleed yet again.
3.	Avoid certain kinds of food/drink. Anything hot, spicy, hard – stay away from these for a couple of days. You also ought to avoid sodas or any caffeinated drinks. Not only might you hurt yourself, but you also open yourself to the risk of more bleeding.

This list may seem difficult, but it is only a temporary thing.

Your dentist gave you a comprehensive list of instructions together with your medication. If the extraction is major, you just might have a problem remembering all those “to dos.” Check out this simple list – you won’t go wrong.

Get some rest. Yes, it is as simple as that. You simply ought to rest and not be physically active. By the way, when you lie down, make sure your head is elevated a little bit.

Do take the medicine at the appropriate time. You will probably be given pain killers, anti-inflammatories, and blood coagulants. These will all help with the healing process so make sure you don’t miss any.

Bite down on the gauze firmly. Do NOT chew. Just keep your jaw clamped for about an hour after the extraction as this will help with the blood clot.

In the next post, we’ll look at some “don’ts.”

Yellowish teeth are normal for some people, but no once can deny the attraction of pearly white teeth. With all the advertisements of white teeth all over the place, it is understandable that many of us want to get white teeth.

You have some options when it comes to teeth whitening. The easiest option is to go to the dentist and have the procedure done. Chemicals are used to bleach and polish the teeth. You ought to realize, however, that if not taken cared of, the stains will just come back.

The same thing applies to homemade solutions, which are cheaper, but might not be as effective. One effective solution is to use a ripe strawberry and about half a teaspoon of baking soda. Crush the berry and blend it with the baking soda. Use this as toothpaste and leave it on for 5 minutes before rinsing. If you do this every night, you’ll get results within a week or so.

Anything less than perfect white is not acceptable for some. You have to realize, however, that teeth discoloration is normal. Some people even have a slightly yellow tinge to their teeth.

Of course, overly yellow teeth can prove to be an aesthetic problem. Here are some causes of yellow teeth. Know them, avoid them, and work your way to whiter teeth for longer.

Poor oral hygiene. Yes, oral hygiene is always the culprit. If you take care of your teeth well, then your teeth could very well not turn yellow as time passes by.

Food and drink choices. Certain food and drink items can stain your teeth. Coffee, tea, soda, and certain berries are only some of the most common ones. If you cannot avoid consuming these items, then try do so sparingly and visit your dentist more often.

What do you do when a tooth suffers damage to the point that it cannot be restored anymore? You can either go toothless for the rest of your life or get a dental implant. A dental implant makes use of an artificial tooth, which is implanted (hence the name). The artificial tooth is anchored into the jawbone, making it as permanent as can be.

How do you decide if a dental implant is the right thing for you?

Here are some questions you can ask yourself.

1.	Are you generally healthy overall?
2.	Is your jawbone structure strong enough to support a dental implant?
3.	Will you be able to take care of the dental implant and practice good oral hygiene?

The second question is best answered by a dentist. If the answer is yes to all the questions, though, you are a good candidate for a dental implant procedure.

Dental costs are here to stay. Even if you take care of your teeth in the best possible way, there might be an instance or two wherein you would have to spend on a visit to the dentist. Here are some tips by which you can make some savings.

Get dental insurance. This is perfect for just about anyone. Basic coverage will take care of average needs, while higher coverage will take care of more complicated procedures. Take a look around and compare your options to make more savings.

Dental tourism. If you have some money and you need expensive dental procedures, consider dental tourism. In other countries, dental work is cheaper. Take some European countries, Australia even. You can take a holiday while improving your dental health!

Charitable organizations. There are entities or groups which offer dental care for a fraction of their regular cost. Dental missions and the like – these are very good options for those who are quite hard up economically.

1.	Brush the right way. Cliché, but very true!
2.	Use mouthwash. This can help you keep bad breath away during the day. It may not treat the root cause of bad breath, but it is a good way to maintain fresher breath.
3.	Drink lots of water. Water rinses your mouth, and helps get rid of food debris. It also helps keep your mouth moisturized, avoiding issues associated with a dry mouth.
4.	Visit the dentist regularly. This will help keep your teeth and gums healthy. You will also be able to catch any problems in the early stages, avoiding more serious causes of bad breath.

The most gorgeous person on earth can suddenly find himself or herself the talk (and not good talk) of the town if he or she has bad breath. The trick to avoiding bad breath is to know what causes it in the first place. Here are the three most common causes of bad breath.

Food debris accumulated over time. You may not know it but if you don’t brush regularly and properly, tiny food debris can accumulate in between your teeth, the gums, and on your tongue. Make sure that you brush your teeth (and tongue) properly.

Smoking. This habit can lead to the accumulation of nicotine and tar inside the oral cavity. These things can cause bad breath.

Gum disease or tooth decay. If you have a dental condition, the bacteria can produce bad breath. Once you know you have a problem, have it treated immediately.
