Do You Have Dry Mouth Disease?

We all get dry mouths every now and then, but there is actually a serious dental condition wherein a person experiences this symptom for extended periods of time. Dubbed dry mouth disease or xerostomia, the condition can be very uncomfortable at the least. If left untended, dry mouth disease can lead to more serious problems involving the build up of plaque, tooth decay, and even gum disease.

What are the signs that you have dry mouth disease?

• Not enough saliva, and whatever there is is thick and stringy
• Dry mouth and throat
• Sore insides of the mouth and throat
• Cracked lips
• Difficulty when chewing or swallowing
• Perhaps some difference in the sense of taste

If you have been experiencing these symptoms for a prolonged period of time, you ought to see a dentist immediately. It is easy enough to treat as long as the problem is caught early on.
